What I’ve learned….

I have had an interesting journey while following my peers and learning about their college experiences. I have learned that students have a lot more in common than what they think. I know now that a student’s college life molds them into who they might be in life and society. I think everyone should experience college it’s not only valuable for a career but it is valuable for learning life lessons. While in college a lot of trial and tribulations are thrown in your way, a lot of mistakes are made, but the lesson is how you deal and learn from those lessons. It is really interesting to step into someone else’s life and see how they live for a little while. My theme helped understand people a lot more and it open my eyes to how much students go through, getting through college is truly an accomplishments because it is not as easy as it looks.

As far as j232 goes this class has taught me a lot. I never would have thought I would be getting audio and editing video until I stepped into this class. It makes me have a greater appreciation for journalist. It’s funny because when I watch a documentary or an investigative special on television I see it from a completely different angle now. It is really cool that by using the things we learned in class we have the ability to bring a person into another world and make them see things from another perspective. I will leave this class with a lot of knowledge and experience with using other programs like Dreamweaver and Photoshop. I hope that I will be able to use the things I have learned in j232 in my career and share my life experiences with other people.

I am really satisfied with my theme. I have learned a lot from researching college life from my peers. I am happy with how honest the college student I have talked to and interviewed have been. It’s like these people want others to really know what life is like as a college student. The only difficulty is I wish I had more time to dive into these stories but ironically college life gets in the way test, papers, ect. I plan on wrapping up my theme with specific peoples college life coming to an end, for example college seniors, what are your thoughts now that they are going to be in the real world? What will they miss about college? What life lessons have they learned? I think this will be a good way to wrap up my journey.

I like Jill’s idea of following the intramural basketball team is a cool idea. I like how the players are just people who have love of the sport. I think what might bring her project to life are interviews. The more interviews from the players she has, the more likely a story will come into place! I would like to hear them talk about how it differs from any other basketball team. Is it actually more fun playing intramural, or for a college team? I think action photos will be a great help with putting the audience in the game with the players too.

My College life project has been moving along great! I have learned so much about how my peers view there college life and experiences. I think it is always good to step out of a situation and try to see things from a different point of view. Sometimes you think you know things, but you really have no idea! Giving people an insight is the whole point of why I chose this topic. My plan is to tie everything together. I am going to try to take each person’s story and make it cohesive. I want all of the people I have met and experiences I have witnessed to all tell a story. I want to basically sum up college life and give the viewers a look inside!

Hey! I never really find to many things that are interesting on campus, but last week something caught my attention. I was walking to the Fine Arts Building for class and saw a belly dancing presentation. They were in front Java City in their traditional belly dancing outfits, dancing! The music was really loud, and the dancing was intense, they showed all of their abilities, and being very flexible was clearly one of them. I Really did not know why they were there but it was interesting to see while walking to class. I think campus should do more random acts of showing interesting things about different cultures, its cool!

As a student I prefer to be treated as a young adult. I feel like I should be looked at as responsible and ambitious. I think teachers should be more active in helping their students succeed in their college careers. I have come across some professors that are in this for the thrill of making they youth strong and successful, but I have come across some that don’t care. I think it’s a life lesson being in college, it gets you ready for the real world, not everyone will be on your side. My mom plays a big role in my college life, I ask her advice all the time. I figure she should have a say, she raised me and would be the one taking me in and complaining about how I should have done this or that, if I don’t succeed! So I let her in on everything dealing with college! I also involve her because I want to make her proud and be a success in her eyes. My friends play a role in my college life too. We push each other not to mess up or slack off too much, because we all want to be able to have financial security and take trips together when we get older! I feel like im a wiser student than in highschool, but then people made you go to class so you could not help but do the work. Now in college no one is forcing you so it is very easy to get side tracked. I want to intern a lot more places because I want to have as much experience in the work force as possible! My biggest fear is not getting a job after college, so im determined to not let that happen.

This week I will be focusing on Becca. Becca Is a senior in college and has the stresses of grades and finances in her college life. She came into Western Kentucky University with a lower gpa from a different college. WKU admission requirement was to go to the learning center to make sure her classes were on track, and to raise her gpa. After she had brought up her gpa her parents still insists that she went for 3 or more hours a week. “I felt like this was needed when my gpa was low, but since I brought it up I feel like I should have my parents trust and not have to sit in a room and do homework or busy work, its pointless now!” Becca explains. i wonder, When do parents know when a situation is handled? It’s college we have to learn from our mistakes ourselves right? Another issue that Becca has to deal with is tuition. Her dad is making her pay him back for her college career if she doesnt recieve a 3.0 gpa. I asked her how she felt about having to pay back what her dad had spent for college and she said, “College life is already stressful enough, now I have a fear of not making the grade and being broke!” I wonder how she will be able to keep her grades up and aviod paying her Dad? I also want to see if her socializing and going out is effecting any of her situations? I guess we will have to wait and see.

Hey World!! I’ve been entering new phases in collecting information for my college life theme. I have decided to focus On Wynter, a student teacher torn between her social life and what is expected from her as a student teacher. I really wanted the interview to be REAL, I wanted to know her inner thoughts and feelings about her “new” life. I wanted to know if its hard to live in college housing, while student teaching? I was curious to know if any of her relationships have suffered, from the demands of student teaching? I also was interested in learning about her school schedule and social life was prior to this dramatic change. In case you did not know a student teacher is a student who spends there days at a real school intereacting with students. These students go to school at the same time their students do, and also have the same dismissal time and spring break as the students too. All of this being considered it is intriguing to find out how she deals with this adjustment, stay tuned!!!!!

Hey!!!!!! so im pretty excited to share, that I have been observing college kids like crazy!!!!! I’ve learning their stories and how they are dealing with life. I plan on observing the college party scene! I want to find out if college kids party and drink because its fun?? or is it deeper than that? Do the stresses of classes influence these party habits, or do friends have an influence on this behavior?? I also will be focusing on college study habits. I want to know how much do students study and if it works? I want to know if people use the facilities on campus when they are struggling with a class, why or why not?? I am also following stories of the what stresses college kids out! Is it class and test? Relationships? or finances?….. As you can see there is a lot to be covered but finding out the answers to these questions will hopefully help my generation in some way!!!! My first person of interest is Wynter, she is a Senior who majors in elementary education. This semester she wakes up at 530am every morning, goes to a local elementary school, and student teaches. I wanted to know how she was able to balance her social life and career goals while living in college housing?? Is she influenced by her peers to go out even though she has more of a responsibility this semester ? or does she feel like an outsider because she can not participate in things her peers are doing all the time?

Hey world!!!! I am so excited to share that I am goin to take part in investigating the lives of college students. I will be documenting the parties, studying habits, and stresses of college students. I will share the stories of college kids, just like you! I plan on keeping my material REAL and nothing else. I feel that life is never predictable or mundane, so my investigation will NEVER be. I am excited to show the world the voices of my generation!!! Lets go!!!!
